This Week at ABC – How David Took Out a Giant (Hint: Not Goliath)

I can’t wait to be with you this Sunday at Avalon Beach Church! Our theme for our 6th season is “Songs of Summer,” and we are looking at God’s hymnbook: the Book of Psalms.

This week we are focusing on a Psalm of “lament.” These are Psalms in which the writer expresses sadness or even indignation with God. One person said that these Psalms indicate that God is big enough to take our laments and loving enough to absorb them.

We will look at Psalm 42 and 43 this week. We will see David’s rock bottom desire: “As the deep pants for the water, so my soul longs for Thee.” We will feel the depths of David’s depression, three times he will ask “Why is my soul downcast?”

And best of all, we will engage with David’s pathway to joy. You’ll have to come or listen to the message online to get this amazing comfort. I will give you this small nugget of spiritual gold: Martin Lloyd Jones said that most of our unhappiness is due  to listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself. Wait until you hear the message David preaches to his own soul three times in Psalm 42 and 43!

Hope to see you Sunday at 9am on the 30th street beach in Avalon. Bring your beach chair, some Wawa coffee and a carload of friends and family!
