We’ve focused all season this year on this theme at ABC: “A Summer of 3:16.” Each week we’ve looked at a different passage in the Bible that is found in a 3rd chapter and the 16th verse. This week is one of the best yet! We will study Acts 3:16:
“By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.”
This story in Acts chapter 3 is filled with raw emotion. A man started his day like every other day, he was carried to the temple court so that he could beg as the source of his existence. He was crippled in both body and spirit. He thought that he needed money, so when Peter and John strolled by, he asked for alms.
Peter looked straight at him and saw more than a man with a financial need, he saw a masterpiece of God’s hand and a miracle in the making. Peter confessed to not having any silver or gold, but declared with boldness the powerful resource he and John had been given. . .the NAME of JESUS.
This week we will focus on the power that is in Christ’s NAME. It has power to make the lame walk. No, it is more powerful than that. . .The NAME of JESUS has power to make the lame go walking and leaping and praising God! That same power is available to each one of us.
This Sunday may start just like every other day for you, but there is potential for it to include a miracle. Join us Sunday morning at 9am on the 30th street beach in Avalon, NJ. Bring your beach chair, some Wawa coffee and a whole carload of family and friends. As you leave, we hope that you will “Take the NAME of JESUS with you.”
Take the Name of Jesus with you,
Child of sorrow and of woe,
It will joy and comfort give you;
Take it then, where’er you go.
Refrain:
Precious Name, oh, how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of Heav’n;
Precious Name, oh, how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of Heav’n.
Take the Name of Jesus ever,
As a shield from every snare;
If temptations round you gather,
Breathe that holy Name in prayer.
Oh, the precious Name of Jesus!
How it thrills our souls with joy,
When His loving arms receive us,
And His songs our tongues employ!
At the Name of Jesus bowing,
Falling prostrate at His feet,
King of kings in heav’n we’ll crown Him,
When our journey is complete.
