As the flags are flying high this weekend all around America, we are going to celebrate FREEDOM this Sunday at ABC. We will sing with FREEDOM from our hearts, we will thank God for FREEDOM in prayer. And we will study what the Bible has to say about FREEDOM from 2 Corinthians 3:16-18.
Here’s just a glimpse of where we will be going: If you were able to stand face to face with Jesus in all of his resurrected glory, would you cower in fear or revel in confident joy?
We are going believe together these messages: “Now the LORD is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is FREEDOM.” (2 Corinthians 3:17) and “And now dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.” (1 John 2:28)
Our focus all this season is: A SUMMER OF 3:16. Here’s a recap of last week’s message from 2 Thessalonians 3:16: “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”
- Make Peace – Before you can have the peace of God, you have to make peace with God. Take a look at Colossians 1:19-21 and Romans 5:8. Peace flows in the midst of a reconciled relationship with God. Acknowledge your need. Believe that Jesus is who he says he is. Confess your sins. Decide to follow Jesus.
- Have Peace – Read John 16:33 and Philippians 4:7. We looked at the amazing story of Horatio Spafford. Out of financial ruin, the death of his two year old son to disease and the horrific drowning of his four daughters on a ship in the Atlantic, Spafford penned these words: “When peace like a river attendeth my way. When sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say: It is well, it is well, with my soul.”
- Give Peace – When we have made peace with God, and when we have the peace of God, we are then free to give peace for God. We can be PEACEMAKERS. Take a look at Hebrews 12:14 and James 3:18. Out of Spafford’s tragedy, he and his wife became missionaries in Jerusalem and developed a ministry in the midst of WWI that fed the hungry, cared for the sick and housed orphans. They knew the God of peace who offers peace “at all times and in every way.” Do you?
Here’s a GREAT benediction: “The God of peace will soon crush satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord be with you.” (Romans 16:20) WOW, LOVE IT!
